Summer is in full swing if you’re in the northern hemisphere, and it might be time for a wardrobe revamp. If you’re finding things a little hot where you’re at, you might want to check out our previous blog post on what to wear when it’s just too hot. In the meantime, here are some items you might want to add to your wardrobe to carry you through the end of the season.

Crochet

Crochet isn’t just for the throw on the back of your sofa or the shelf in the form of an amigurumi character. Look for cute crochet bags if you want to play it safe with the trend or a cute crochet top to wear with your favorite denim shorts. You can make crocheted garments and accessories, find them while thrifting (watch for pulled strings), or purchase them new. To keep cool when it’s hot outside, watch to ensure it’s made of natural fibers.

Brown

Brown is this summer’s neutral, whether it’s a brown leather purse, a mahogany maxi dress, or a pair of gorgeous sable sling-backs. Mix different hues or stay with one hue with a camel-colored skirt suit.

Preppy

Preppy is back in all of its sporty and classic forms. Look for polo shirts, striped short-sleeved shirts tucked into jeans, and, for chilly mornings on the lake, the classic preppy v-neck sweater.  This trend isn’t disappearing soon, and it’s quite wearable, so if you’re shopping new, it’s worth it to purchase quality pieces that last through summer and into the fall.

Puddle Pants

Crops have been in for so long that you might wonder what puddle pants are. They’re long-line hems that puddle on the floor slightly. With this trend, tailoring is vital. You’ll want these hemmed to match the shoes you plan to wear with them correctly. If they puddle perfectly with flats, they won’t look the same if you switch things up and wear them with heels. This is a great summer trend because of the pants’ looser fit.

Slim Sneakers

For a minute, you thought I would say chunky sneakers, didn’t you? Those are taking a seat, though, to their sleeker cousins. This is great news for travelers this summer because slim sneakers fit better when packing. These aren’t your normal athletic sneakers; they have a thinner sole and are made of thinner materials. Don’t skimp on quality here – with shoes, you want to support your feet well, and some of the less expensive slim-line sneakers might not offer the arch support you need for your foot’s bone health.

Statement Belts

If you have something to say, say it with a belt. This season’s belts are putting it all forward. Cinch a dress with a cute woven or macrame belt to rock a more boho look for the summer. Pair a thicker leather belt with a lighter-weight dress. Have fun with the belts out there this year – there are many of them. Just watch out for ones made from plastics, as not only do they not last as long, but they are not sustainable.

Mary Janes

Ballet flats have had their moment, and now Mary Janes are having theirs. These classic shoes are popping up everywhere – but they look especially good with puddle pants and a preppy polo.

The Little White Dress

This is summer 2024’s answer to the little black dress, and I’m here for it. There are many very cute and summery little white dresses out there. To embrace other summer 2024 women’s fashion trends, look for dresses with texture and details like crocheted hems or waistlines.
