What. A. Year. While the world was caught between the pandemic and a “new normal,” fashion persisted and continued to bring joy to individuals around the world. We are proud to play a continued role in this joy and have so much to celebrate as we look back on 2021, and ahead at 2022. Take a look at what we were able to accomplish this year!

Serena Williams Design Crew

What better way to kick off the year than with a Nike collaboration? Right from the start we set out to help the athleticwear giant find midwestern designers for its 2021 Serena Williams Design Crew.

Virtual Paris Fashion Week F/W 2021

When Spring rolled around, it was time to showcase the Fall/Winter 2021 ready-to-wear collections of our designers during Virtual Paris Fashion Week. Due to travel restrictions, this year’s event was partially filmed at the Indianapolis Artsgarden, home of Midwest Fashion Week Indy. Watch the show here.

L’Officiel Feature

For the first time in its 100-year history, midwest fashion was highlighted in L’Officiel magazine via a feature on Midwest Fashion Week. We couldn’t be more thrilled to help put the midwest on the global fashion map!

GQ South Africa Feature

By late summer, we were preparing for our next global event and were featured in another notable fashion publication, GQ South Africa, on the Top 9 Things About Midwest Fashion Week.

Later that same month, we hosted CONNEXIONS in Johannesburg, South Africa – our first in-person fashion event since the pandemic began. This event featured networking, live entertainment, shopping, and a runway showcase featuring the collections of seven designers. Watch our CONNEXIONS highlight reel to relive the magic!

Virtual Paris Fashion Week S/S 2022

Days later, we premiered our Spring/Summer 2022 Virtual Paris Fashion Week featuring Midwest Fashion Week Director Berny Martin’s label Catou. Filmed in the heart of Paris, this 70s inspired collection tells the story of love in the new world. Watch it now!

Tee Up: Fashion for a Cause Golf Outing

Midwest Fashion Week’s charitable sister organization the Fashion Community Foundation (FCF) was also hard at work living up to its mission this year. In October, they hosted a charity golf outing in Carmel, Indiana to raise money for its many programs.

Global Fashion Indy

By November, we were back in the swing of in-person events and hosting another great fashion show, this time in Indianapolis at the International Marketplace Coalition’s Global Village Welcome Center. This event featured an art exhibition, international food and drinks, as well as a runway show featuring local designers of diverse backgrounds. Get the full details in this article from the Indianapolis Recorder.

FCF Scholarships

Throughout the year, the Fashion Community Foundation also had the honor of awarding scholarships to budding midwestern entrepreneurs looking to start businesses via its Julie Marie Scholarship Program. To date, 20 community scholarships have been awarded for a grand total of $18,075! Learn more.
