New Year, New Style: Winter 2020 Trends for Women

While we all begin dreaming of Spring just after the holidays, the truth is, it’s only been Winter for a few weeks and there are so many trends to be taken advantage of while it lasts! Forget everything you think you know about cold weather style, ladies (hello, oversized sweaters and leggings–we’re looking at you!), because we are reviewing some of the hottest trends, direct from the runway that can easily be translated in the Midwest. Let’s dig in!

Fuzzy, Furry Outerwear

When temperatures drop, there’s nothing better than cozy outerwear that makes you feel warm and toasty like a polar bear, and that’s what this trend is all about! Sherpa, shearling, wubby, teddy bear coat–whatever you want to call it–the runways were flooded with soft, fluffy outerwear earlier this Spring and we couldn’t be happier about it. Choose a longline jacket in a soft pink or opt for a faux fur in a luxe shade of emerald. Whatever calls to you, do you, boo!

Novelty Knits

Slouchy, oversized sweaters are a thing of the past as more tailored knits with novelty features make their way in the world. This year we’re spicing things up with fringe, ruffles, bell sleeves, rosettes, and jewels. Feminine, edgy, doesn’t matter–the more unique the better!

Slouchy Suits

Even though you may feel like staying in, you still have to go to work this Winter. #Rude Freshen up your 2020 office attire with the addition of some new suits. While the “Ghost of Fall 2019 Past” says more fitted, tailored suits are in, today’s designers and buyers are leaning towards more loose, comfortable styles. The best part? These matching sets can also be worn as separates. After all, who doesn’t need another blazer or pair of wide leg trousers??

While you may already have a leather moto jacket and a pair of faux leather leggings, earlier this year, designers clothed their models in leather dresses, leather trench jackets, and even leather suits! Think you can’t pull this off in the Midwest? Try picking pieces with touches of leather, like a blouse with a leather collar or jacket with leather pockets.

Accessory Spotlight: Headbands & Microbags

While hair scarves and pearl hair clips reigned last year, headbands are the new accessory queen. Silk and velvet headbands with knots, bows, jewels and pearls have been spotted on influencers all over Instagram and should make their way to your collection, as well!

Handbag trends seem to be all over the map, on any given day, but this season, designers are leaning towards the idea that smaller is better. Grab a mini satchel or a crossbody to pair with your novelty knit or leather dress…and good luck fitting all your necessities inside. You can do it, we have fashion faith in you!

Wondering about what’s in style for the guys this season? Stay tuned next week as we dig into what’s good for the gents!
